Chervony Mayak village is situated on the picturesque
bank of Kahovka reservoir. It is famous for its
great monastery named Tavryisky Afon. It was our
ancestors' spiritual centre.
There were subterranean ways and caves tens of
kilometers down the hills. There is almost no
information about when and who discovered them.
There is a supposition according to which they
were abandoned after the times of wild and savage
nomads. Later Zaporizhyans and Christians who
were looking for loneliness used them.

Along Dnepr, in between wild bushes of a dogrose and
a hawthorn there are patterns that lead to caves of
monks. In a rock they have cut down church with four
columns, altar and circular course, which was saved
up to now.
In 1781 about a beam covered by greens, the imperial
government has allocated the ground for the basis of
a monastery. So the history St. George's man's monastery
began. In the beginning of 20 centuries the monastery
was one of the richest in the south of Ukraine. 1800
monks were praying and working for the sake of its prosperity.
Except for a grain husbandry, gardening, beekeeping,
cattle breeding, winemaking developed. During II World
War monks with the weapon in hands asserted their rights.
Now the monastery consists of five monks, monastic
constructions at last have returned to a monastery.
Having visited this fertile place and having prayed
you will have a spiritual rest...
