Tuesday is a day off. |  | The collection of the domestic fine arts of the Odessa Art Museum is one of the most significant and many-sided in Ukraine. It covers all kinds of the fine arts: painting, graphic, a sculpture, arts and crafts also includes works of Russian and Ukrainian masters of iconography from the XVI century up to the present, totaling more than 10 thousand original works. The museum was founded in 1899 under the initiative of the Odessa society of the fine arts based in 1865. The beginning to museum collection was the pictures conveyed by the Petersburg Academy of arts. The museum is located in the center of Odessa, above the sea, in a palace, that is also a monument of architecture of the beginning of XIX century and it has artificial underground grotto open for visiting. The exposition of a museum is placed in 26 halls on two floors. It is made in historical and chronological sequence with observance of a monographic principle of display of products of each author. The exposition opens with remarkable creations of icon painters of XVI-XVIIIcenturies and with portraits full of originality XVII? centuries. With the painting of XVIII - the beginnings of XIX century acquaint the portraits created by the best masters of that epoch, such as D.Levitsky, V.Borovikovsky, O.Kiprensky, V.Tropinin and others. The academic painting is shown with characteristic and significant works. The collection of works of glorified marine painter I.Ajvazovskogo is interesting and numerous. The museum has big and a representative collection of works of painters of a democratic direction in domestic art of second half the XIX century, first of all, members of Company of mobile art exhibitions . These are works of known artists I.Kramskogo, A.Savrasova, I.Levitana, I.Shishkina, A.Kuindzhi, I.Repina, V.Surikova and many others. One of the best sections of a collection is art of the end of the XIX and the beginning of the XX centuries - reflects a variety and intensity of creative searches of this difficult time. Works of V.Serov, M.Vrubel, N.Rerih, B.Kustodiev, A.Benua, K.Somov, V.Kandinsky are shown in collection of the museum. Here is exhibited also the unique collection of painting of masters of Company of South Russian artists, based in Odessa at 1890. Unique originality of works of K.Kostandi, G.Ladyzhenskogo, G.Golovkova, P.Nilusa has generated bases of the Odessa picturesque school. The department of the modern art represents an art life of Odessa since 20th years up to now. In an exposition the best works of artists of Odessa and other regions of Ukraine are exhibited. | | The Odessa State Literature Museum The address of museum is Odessa Lanzheronovskaya St., 2. Tel.: 22-33-70 Work time is from 10.00 to 17.00. Monday is a day off. |  | The Odessa State Literary Museum was founded in 1977, and open for visitors in 1984. It is one of the largest regional literary museums of the country. Its exposition occupies twenty halls. Each hall is an artistic image of decade to which it is devoted. It is the system of names, symbols and signs in which real documents of time - books, manuscripts, photos, personal things of writers create something like 'a labyrinth of time', not having analogues all over the world. The main founder of decoration of the museum became the largest Kiev designer, the winner of T.G.Shevchenko prize artist Anatoly Gajdamaka. The building in which the museum is located, has been built in the middle of XIX century. The palace belonged to the representative of the supreme circles of Russian aristocracy, one of the first citizens of Odessa to Prince Dmitrij Ivanovich Gagarin, and his wife, Sofia Petrovna. In second half of century family Gagarinyh has conveyed a palace to city. The building is in historical city centre. The history of a palace is connected with activity of local intelligence. From 1899 to 1903 here passed sessions and evenings of the Literary - Artistic society which united writers, artists, musicians, and actors. | | The Archaeological Museum of Odessa The address of museum is Odessa Lanzheronovskaya St.,4. Tel.: 22-63-02 Work time is from 10.00 to 17.00. Monday is a day off. |  | The Odessa Archeological Museum is one of the oldest in the country; it has been opened in 1825. Its development was promoted by the Odessa Society of the History and Antiquities created in 1839 which possessed the right of excavation in the south of Russia. Now in a museum is stored over 160 thousand the exhibits being the largest collection of sources on an ancient history of Northern Black Sea Coast. Besides here there are collections of monuments of Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, a coin and a medal. Exposition of a museum includes: The best samples of an antique sculpture are exposed in a lobby of the building specially constructed for a museum in 1883. In first two halls are the materials covering the huge period of time: from occurrence of the human being - till the second millennium up to AD. Special interest is represented with finds from settlements and burial grounds of cultures of Gumel'nitsa, Cucuteni, Usatovo, burials mound and treasures of bronze. The culture of the Scythian tribes lived at this time in steppes of Black Sea Coast, is submitted by materials from settlements and burial places, subjects of arms, bronze boilers and other utensils, decorations. To the beginning of the first millennium AD Scythians were pressed by Sarmatians, and in III-IV there was the association of tribes submitted by subjects of Chernjahovs culture. The period of IX-XIV centuries is reflected in materials from settlements and cities of the Kiev Russia, Belgorod, Feodosiya and the island Berezan. At 'the Gold storeroom' of the museum is exhibited original things of precious metals, most ancient of them concern to the beginning of the second to a millennium up to AD. The product of Slavic masters, an ornament from Scythian and Sarmatian burial grounds, medieval burials of nomads draw attention. The collection of the Egyptian antiquities is the third on size in the former USSR | | The Bleschunov Municipal Museum of Personal Collections The address of museum is Odessa Pol'skaya St., 19. Wednesday is a day off. |  | The Bleschunov Municipal Museum of Personal Collections is one of the youngest Odessa museums, it was opened in 1989. The museum is differing among the others with its unique atmosphere. The reason of it consists, first of all those employees of a museum up today try to keep the traditions of the museum founder. Exposition of a museum: 'A.V.Bleshchunova's Memorial room' is a study of the collector, in which the subjects most dear for the founder of a museum (family relics, photos of friends, pupils), the materials connected with military and climbing stages of his life are collected. 'Russian olden time'- in this room subjects of a life of the townspeople of the XIX - the beginnings of XX centuries are stored basically. There are samples of ancient furniture from the Karelian birch, a product from Russian beads, a hand-worked lace and many other things. In a room 'the Buddhist East' subjects of art of peoples of Japan, China, Mongolia and Tibet are exhibited. There are rather interesting collections of the Chinese and Japanese porcelain, bottles for tobacco from semiprecious stone. There is also the small pantheon of deities of the Buddhism, executed in techniques of 'the lost wax model'. In a room 'the Western Europe' subjects of furniture, samples of porcelain, a glass, and also painting of the XVIII-X1X centuries are exhibited. The composite center of a hall is the Venetian mirror in a carved wooden frame above which the gallery of portraits of reigning persons of XVII-XVIII centuries is exhibited. 'Ladder flight' is decorated with a small collection of works of B.A.Smirnova-Rusetskogo, one of N.K.Reriha's pupils. The assembly of the Ukrainian art in a museum is insignificant on volume, but it is interesting by a principle of selection of exhibits: in it national crafts of Ukraine are submitted. In a hall 'the Muslim East' subjects of a life of Central Asia and Transcaucasia are submitted. One of the most interesting collections of a hall is collection of carpets with well-known Persian carpet, with the image of a blossoming tree and birds. Very interesting is a collection of the Central Asian and Iranian vessels (for washing, preparation of tea, devices for smoking). The hall 'Odessika' is devoted to native city. Its exposition is various: it includes both memorial things, and the books becoming already a rare book, and old newspapers, photos, and works of the Odessa artists. In the hall 'Christianity' very interesting collection of original old believe icons is collected. |
